Diwali is one of the major festival , falling on Amavas (no moon day) in the month of Kartik . It is celebrated as Shri Ram returned back Ayodhya after 14years of Vanwas. Mata Laxmi took avatar on earth during sumdra mannthan at same day that is why we worship specially Laxmi ji on Diwali.
